H1 Approvals

02 July 2018

Supra Plus Logo

We are pleased to announce that Supra Plus has now been tested and approved to the H1 high pressure classification, the highest pressure class available under the System Chimney Standard EN 1856-1.

The H1 rating applies to all Supra Plus components at diameters ø100mm-ø350mm, except for those excluded as listed below.

The new H1 pressure classification means that Supra Plus is now suitable for appliances that have an available over pressure capability in excess of 200Pa, and where the flue gas temperature does not exceed 200°C. This classification offers 50x the pressure capability of the previous P1 pressure classification.

To achieve this rating, the leakage rate of the product has to be less than 0.006 l.s-1.m-2 when subjected to an internal positive pressure of 5000Pa, as detailed in EN 1856-1: 2009 and when tested in accordance with EN 1859:2009.

Pressure type Test Pressure
(Pa)
Leakage rate/Flue surface area
(l.s-1.m-2)
N1 40 < 2.0
P1 200 < 0.006
P2 200 < 0.120
H1 200 & 5000 < 0.006
H2 200 & 5000  < 0.120

During the thermal assessment phase, the product has to undergo a number of thermal test and the required leakage rate must be achieved at each phase as detailed below:

Pressure test → Thermal stress test → Pressure test → Thermal cycle → Pressure test

In additional to the initial type testing, ongoing sampling of the H1 pressure classification is undertaken during batch sampling in production, as required under our Quality Management System and FPC requirements.

One of the main factors contributing to the success of the H1 pressure classification was the re-design and upgrade of our triple lip elastomer seal, which plays a critical role in maintaining the positive pressure capability, condensate resistance and the stability of the product.  The overall cross sectional and vane thickness has been increased by 50% and the Shore Hardness increased accordingly to offer greater durability in the field, increased corrosion resistance and greater resistance for high pressure applications.  To further improve the design, all seals are now fully vulcanised to increase mechanical strength.

The elastomer seal is CE marked to the following standard and performance designation:-

EN 14241-1 T200 W 2 K2 I

All Supra Plus products are now factory fitted with the upgraded seal specification. In addition, all seal are factory bonded to the Supra Plus product to ensure location integrity when installed.

The following product designation string will be added to both the package label and the license label going forward:

Product Standard Temperature Class Pressure Class Condensate Resistance Corrosion Class Liner Material Specification Soot-fire resistance Distance to combustibles
Supra Plus EN 1856-1 T200 H1 W V2 L50050 O See DOP for clearance

In addition to the enhanced elastomer seal, there have been numerous engineering refinements to the Supra Plus offering over the last 12 months, based both on customer feedback and trends in the market. These modifications include the physical size reduction of elbows, 135° Tees and Reducing Tees to provide a more compact design, especially where the installation involves wall hung condensing appliances.  We have also significantly increased the range of reducing tees, eccentric and standard increasers / reducers, offering greater flexibility to the installer without the need for special bespoke components.

Applications

Condensing appliances – We are starting to see more appliances where the over pressure available to vent the products of combustion is greater than the tradition P1 (200Pa) classification. As an example, the Ideal Evomax has an available over pressure which ranges from 225Pa (40Kw Model) to 430Pa (150Kw Model). Supra Plus as an approved H1 product allows the designer to maximise the available over pressure from the appliance, to ensure the most economic chimney design.

Other applications – Supra Plus can be used for many applications that fall within its performance designation as follows:-

Fuel Type: Natural gas, LPG, Kerosene (28Sec) oil
Maximum Chimney Pressure: 5000Pa (H1)
Maximum Flue Gas Temperature: 200°C
Condensate Resistance: Yes
Soot Fire Resistance: No
Distance to Combustible Material: 200mm
Corrosion Class: V2

Exclusions

The following components will be limited to the original P1 pressure classification:

41196XX- Damper length

41110XX- Inspection length

41117XX- Supra Plus to flex adaptor

41121XX- Flex to Supra Plus adaptor

4117908ø80mm Supra Plus- ø100mm flex adaptor

Note: Where there is a possibility of accidental human contact, either the system should be shielded or an insulated product such as Nova should be used.

NOVA Logo

After attaining the H1 classification on Supra Plus, the R&D team focused their attention on the twin wall Nova product, applying the same principles.  We are pleased to announce that our Nova product now also carries the H1 pressure classification.

Having the highest pressure rating allows for more versatility in the range of application of our Nova products, particularly CHP appliances which commonly operate or spike above 200Pa overpressure.

Initially, the H1 rating is only applicable to diameters ø100mm-ø200mm. Larger diameters to follow.

The following product designation string will be added to both the package label and the license label going forward:

Product Standard Temperature Class Pressure Class Condensate Resistance Corrosion Class Liner Material Specification Soot-fire resistance Distance to combustibles
Nova EN 1856-1 T160 H1 W V2 L50050 O See DOP for clearance

Other applications – Nova can also be used for many applications that fall within its performance designation as follows:-

Fuel Type: Oil, gas, solid fuel
Maximum Chimney Pressure: 5000Pa (H1)
Maximum Flue Gas Temperature: 160°C
Condensate Resistance: Yes
Soot Fire Resistance: Yes
Distance to Combustible Material: 50mm
